Student Advisory Committee takes over Great Day Houston

The GEAR UP Student Advisory Committee attended a live taping of Great Day Houston where we had the opportunity to see Brian McKnight, witness some amazing makeovers, and chat with Debra Duncan and her producers. Good times!

Summer Camp 2009 Rocks!!

Summer Camp was held at San Jacinto College Central Campus. Students were able to select from Cosmetology, Algebra 2 Prep, Criminal Justice, Guitar, Journalism, Welding, Art and much more. Everyone learned a lot and had lots of fun!

CONGRATULATIONS Space School Students!

Make sure to congratulate Mario Cisneros, Cesar Carrillo, and Fernando Gonzalez when you see them. They have all three been accepted to attend a week long Space School at Space Center Houston. They will attend July 13th-17th. GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Student Advisory Committee Trip to Kemah

The GEAR UP Student Advisory Committee finished off the year by taking a trip to Kemah for some Marine Exploration! Student Advisory Committee meets once a week during the school year. If you are interested in joining contact Mrs. Carnes.

Congrats NYLSC Atendees!

Jose Martinez, Juan Mendez, Sabrina Duron, and Marco Chacon recently attended to the National Youth Leadership State Conference. They had a great experience and are working towards attending the National Conference. Congratulations!!!

GEAR UP Summer Programs Registration

GEAR UP Summer Programs will be held at San Jacinto College this year. We still have spots available for Geometry Preparation, Algebra II Prep, Journalism, Art, Automotive Technology, Computer Technology, and Welding. See Mrs. Carnes for a registration form ASAP!!

Guest Speaker at Rayburn

The 9th grade class recently had the opportunity to hear from motivational speaker, Jeff Yalden. Mr. Yalden was well received by the students and had a great time presenting. Do you want to go to SPACE SCHOOL??

Space Center Houston has agreed to reserve one week of their Space School for Pasadena ISD GEAR UP students. The camp will take place from July 13th-17th at Space Center Houston with a closing ceremony for families of particpants on the night of Friday the 17th. You must fill out an application to attend and only a few students will be chosen. See Mrs. Carnes for an application.

SUMMER, SUMMER, SUMMER!!

GEAR UP is going to hold a variety of summer programs at San Jacinto College Central this year. We will also have 4 opportunities for your child to take a PSAT preparation course. We don't have any details for now, but I will post when plans are finalized.

ALSO, if you would like to attend an educational summer camp on your own GEAR UP can help you pay for it. If you are on F&R lunch, GEAR UP will pay 75% of the tuition, if you are on regular lunch payments, GEAR UP will pay 50% of the tuition.

Great Times at Great Day Houston!!!

Our trip to Great Day Houston was awesome!! Debra Duncan answered a lot of our questions and some of us even won jewelry! We also went to the University of Houston School of Communications. It was a great experience.

Parent Meeting Next Week

GEAR UP's next parent meeting is Tuesday, January 13th at 6:00pm. The meeting will be in the auditorium in English and the Cafeteria in Spanish. We will discuss registering for 10th grade, improving grades, upcoming GEAR UP field trips and college visits and much more. Hope to see you there!!
